In February 2016, I was fortunate enough to sit down with Prof. Ramzi Kassem to a packed room of interested students to discuss some of the most pressing issues of civil liberties and national security. Kassem is an Associate Professor of Law at the City University of New York, where he directs the Immigrant & Refugee Rights Clinic and supervises the Creating Law Enforcement Accountability & Responsibility (CLEAR).
Prof. Kassem spoke candidly about his experience representing clients in Guantanamo and Bagram and stayed after to talk with students for quite some time. I lecture on issues of civil liberties, surveillance, and the global war on terror but I learned so much from our conversation. A write up of the event is posted here.
